Four interim government ministers resign to contest House Elections

Kathmandu, January 20

Four ministers of the interim government have resigned from their posts and entered the electoral race.

Following the Gen Z movement held on September 8 and 9, an interim government was formed under the leadership of former Chief Justice Sushila Karki. Among the members of the interim Council of Ministers, including Education Minister Mahabir Pun, have stepped down to contest the elections.

Education, Science and Technology Minister Mahabir Pun, who resigned earlier this morning, has filed his candidacy for the House of Representatives from Myagdi.

Former Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Kulman Ghising is contesting from Kathmandu constituency number 3, while former Minister for Communication and Information Technology Jagadish Kharel is running from Lalitpur constituency number 2.

Likewise, former Minister for Youth and Sports Bablu Gupta has also resigned to enter the election race. Gupta is contesting from Siraha-1. Candidate nomination is taking place today for the election scheduled on March 5.

Of the 275-member House of Representatives, 110 members are elected through the proportional representation system, while 165 are elected through the first-past-the-post system. Nominations under the proportional representation system were completed on December 28 and 29, while nominations for the direct election system are being registered today.
