Biratnagar, May 9

After one and a half months of the lockdown, some factories in the Sunsari-Morang industrial corridor have come into operation following the government’s directive to partially open the businesses.

About 100 businesses out of 650 have come into operation. However, the businesspersons have expressed their dilemma regarding the operation amid the lack of raw materials, human resources, and the market.

Arihanta Multifibres’ administration officer Ramesh Subba says, “During the crisis, it is not possible to operate the full-fledged business. So, with extreme care, we have followed the preventive measures and open as many factories as possible. However, the lack of raw materials and the market is a constant challenge.”

Similarly, Rijal Polytech Industry’s operator Navin Rijal has expressed the dilemma that has arisen due to the lack of clear instructions from the government. “It seems the government officials have not done their homework. It is not a big deal to open the industries; however, there was a lack of preparation to work on the market for the products. Opening the businesses in this situation will only put more load on the businesspersons.”

Morang Businesspersons Association chair and industrialist Prakash Mundadaa says operating businesses is not feasible during this period. “Raw materials are imported from India and other third countries. However, they all are also locked down. Hence, we have to cut down on the production and operate only partially.”
