News of the victims of the storm that hit Bara and Parsa districts last week not having access to proper meals has received considerable attention in most newspapers along with news of the Home Ministry asking the Ministry of Urban Development to rebuild their homes as soon as possible.

Resettlement plan of action to be ready by next week

Gorkhapatra reports that the government will make the action plan for the resettlement of the Bara and Parsa storm victims in the next five days. The Home Ministry has asked the Ministry of Urban Development to make a plan of action at the earliest and start making houses for the storm victims. The storm that occurred in Bara and Parsa killed 27 and injured over 400 people leaving many without a roof over their head.

Victims searching for next meal

Annapurna Post and Kantipur report that the mess set up for the storm victims has been closed leaving the victims looking for their next meal. Most of the victims from Pheta Rural Municipality ate at the mess, but after the mess arrangers left, most are wondering what to eat.

Many have lost their roof and food items in the storm last Sunday. Even though many have got aid, they say that they will not be able to survive on beaten rice and instant noodles as they have no utensils to cook food in.

Patients to suffer as government doctors continue strike

 

Nagarik reports that with the government doctors steadfast on their strike to press the government for an amendment to the Civil Servants Adjustment Bill, thousands of patients across the country are likely to be deprived of medical services for a third consecutive day on Sunday.

The agitating doctors, who have been protesting against the new bill that puts them under the jurisdiction of provincial governments, say they wish to remain under the scope of federal government so as not to hamper their career growth.  The government doctors say they are willing to be posted anywhere so long as the deployments are made by the federal government.

NC CWC meeting postponed

Kantipur reports that the meeting of the Nepali Congress central working committee scheduled for Saturday has been postponed until further notice. The meeting was put off to allow additional discussions on a subject regarding the formation of the party central work execution committee, said NC’s spokesperson Bishwa Prakash Sharma. Sharma added that even though the members of the committee was finalised, the name of the committee was yet to be decided.

Ministry doesn’t let me speak out: Lucky Sherpa

Kantipur reports that former Nepali Ambassador to Australia Lucky Sherpa has accused the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of not letting her speak. Sherpa was accused of being a human trafficker by her driver. The cabinet then decided to relive her from her post. However, Sherpa says that her driver was involved in illegal activities and that he just wanted to defame her. Sherpa has also said that she will be writing a book where she will clarify all queries pointed at her.

Crows die of bird flu in Kathmandu

Kantipur reports that around 200 crows were found dead at the British Embassy in Kathmandu. The Department of Livestock Services believe that the crows died of bird flu. The Department is preparing to send samples of dead crows to Australia for genome sequencing to confirm if there has been any change in the biology of the H5N1 virus.

As a member of the World Organisation of Animal Health, Nepal has to send samples for avian flu of H5N1 for genome sequencing, according to Dr Samjhana Kumari Shakya, deputy director general at the Department.

Poor weather affects flights at TIA

The Himalayan Times reports that both domestic and international flights at the Tribhuvan International Airport were affected due to bad weather. Low visibility due to continuous rain on Saturday morning affected both incoming and outgoing flights. No aircraft could take off or land between 8 am and 11 am.

Karnali jails get 10,000 books

Naya Patrika reports that in an attempt to make jails a rehabilitation centre, Karnali province has decided to install a library in each of jail in the province. Inaugurating the library, Chief Minister of Karlani Province Mahendra Bahadur Shahi said that the jail needed the library so that the prison can become a place where people changed. He added that books could help the inmates get a new perspective towards life.

Chosen the best: CJ Rana

Nagarik reports that Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana has said that he has chosen the best people available for the five vacant posts at the Supreme Court and added that he had no personal benefit by hiring the people he hired. Many have questioned the appointment of the judges appointed by CJ Rana. Rana said that he wanted the best people to be working at the Supreme Court and hired those who were experienced and had proven themselves.
