Former PM Madhav Nepal’s petition registered in Special Court

Kathmandu, June 25

A case involving former Prime Minister and CPN (Unified Socialist) Chairperson Madhav Kumar Nepal has been assigned to Bench No. 2 of the Special Court.

The bench comprises Justices Tej Narayan Singh Rai, Ram Bahadur Thapa, and Bidur Koirala. The case concerns alleged irregularities in a land swap deal involving Patanjali.

Nepal appeared before the Special Court earlier today in connection with the case. Prior to his appearance, he had submitted a petition requesting permission to attend court proceedings.

“We have already filed his petition requesting court appearance at the Special Court,” said his legal counsel. “Based on this petition, the court schedules the hearing, after which he will give his statement.”

Lawyers close to Nepal said they plan to conclude his statement quickly, starting Wednesday. The detention hearing will follow immediately after the statement is completed.

The Special Court had formally registered the case against Nepal on June 5, accusing him of involvement in irregularities related to the Patanjali land swap deal.
