Kathmandu, November 18
After the midnight arrest of Durga Prasai, coordinator of the “Save the Nation, Nationality, Religion, Culture and Citizens Campaign,” security in the Kathmandu Valley has been further tightened.
Security was intensified after concerns that Prasai’s supporters and the Nagarik Bachau Dal might stage protests following his arrest.
The Kathmandu Valley Police Office in Ranipokhari has instructed all three district police offices in the valley to strengthen security. As a result, the presence of security personnel on the streets has noticeably increased.
Following Prasai’s arrest from his residence in Bhaktapur late Monday night, Prem Kumar Thamsuhang, the general secretary of the Nagarik Bachau Dal, announced that they would stage a protest today. Security was tightened thereafter.
Prasai had been saying that he would launch a nationwide protest on November 23, and preparations had been intensifying accordingly. However, before the announced date, a team from the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office, Teku, and the Kathmandu District Police Office arrested him.
Prasai is currently being held at the Bhadrakali police custody. Police plan to present him to the court today to seek remand for further investigation.
