Kathmandu, August 24
The Supreme Court has ordered the authorities to appear with materials seized from activist Durga Prasai’s residence in connection with a writ petition filed by him.
A bench led by Justice Nripa Dhoj Niraula issued the order on Monday, directing the concerned authorities to appear within 24 hours with the materials seized during a search of Durga Prasai’s house.
The court has also asked the authorities to explain within 24 hours why Prasai has been restricted from moving outside his residence.
The order directs the District Police Range, Bhaktapur, to submit a written response through the Office of the Attorney General and bring to the hearing the materials reportedly seized during the house search conducted on August 20 under a search warrant.
The Supreme Court order states that the authorities must provide the basis and reasons for why an order should not be issued against them and submit their written response within 24 hours, excluding the time required for transit.
The court has separately instructed the District Police Range, Bhaktapur, to bring to the hearing the items reportedly seized from Prasai’s residence during the search conducted under the warrant dated August 20.
The order was issued in response to Prasai’s writ petition challenging the restrictions imposed on his movement.
