Durbarmarg: Operators of eight ‘branded’ item shops held for cheating

File: Closed shops in Durbarmarg

Kathmandu, November 1

Police on Tuesday arrested operators of eight shops selling branded luxury items in Durbarmarg area of Kathmandu.

The Metropolitan Police Range says they were arrested on the charge of cheating consumers by overcharging them.

The Range’s spokesperson Ram Datta Joshi says Rajeshwar Shrestha of Watch and See, Nandan Bihani of Tirupati, Ditendra Maharjan and Subas Maharjan of Label Store, Roshan Odari of Adventure Outdoor, Shree Krishna Maharjan of Lifestyle, Uttam Kumar Basnet of Avenue Marketing, Prabin Jha of Platinum Trade Concern and Tulasi Dhar Bhandari of Bentley were arrested yesterday.

Police say they are also looking into reports filed against other traders of the area.

During a market monitoring in September last week, the government had sealed various shops with similar charges. Around the same time, the Department of Supply Management and Protection of Consumers Interests had requested police to proceed with action against them.

The sealed shops, however, have already been allowed to operate.
