Dr KC warns of another hunger strike if demands are not met

Dr Govinda KC

Kathmandu, September 15

Medical education reform activist Dr Govinda KC has said he will start another fast-unto-death if his newly put seven demands will not be met by the government.

Releasing a statement on Sunday, KC has demanded answers from the government regarding the amendment to the Medical Education Act and the appointment of vice-chairperson of the Medical Education Council.

“I don’t think there has been transparency in appointment of the vice-chairperson of the council. Whether the candidates are qualified or they are there due to their political influence is yet to be seen,” says KC.

KC has urged the government to give a valid reason for the lack of transparency.

He has also demanded that all medical colleges refund the excess amount they took from students perusing medical education and added that action should be taken against such medical colleges.

KC has also reiterated that the government should start a process to build medical colleges in Province 2 and Gandaki as agreed before. Along with that, he has also demanded the MBBS course be started at Karnali Academy of Health Sciences and Rapti Academy of Health Sciences.

His demands also include restricting top leaders from visiting foreign countries for medical treatment.
