Dengue infection on the rise in Nepal

The dengue infection is on the rise in the country of late.

The number of dengue patients is increasing in the wake of monsoon, according to Dr Gokarna Dahal from Epidemiology and Disease Control Division (EDCD).

The current season poses a high risk for the spread of dengue. The presence of mosquito larvae is rampant in the puddles formed due to the rainfall.

Dahal said since the start of 2023, there have been a total of 1,024 reported cases of dengue. One individual from Sunsari has died due to a dengue infection this year.

According to the Division’s records, there are 46 dengue patients in Kathmandu, 12 in Lalitpur, and 35 in Bhaktapur. Darchula has reported the highest number of dengue patients, with 187 cases, followed by Dhading with 131, Sunsari with 75, Kaski with 66, and Myagdi with 29 cases.
