CJ Karki impeachment: Constitutional Bench to hear case

Kathmandu, July 13

The Constitutional Bench will now hear a writ petition filed against the ruling alliance’s move to file an impeachment motion against the then Chief Justice Sushila Karki.

A bench of Acting Chief Justice Gopal Parajuli and justice Prakashman Singh Raut decided to refer the case to the Constitutional Bench as the issue has constitutional ramifications.

The bench has also ordered the Parliament Secretariat to inform the court whether the motion has been withdrawn or not. MPs of the Nepali Congress and the Maoist Centre had filed the impeachment motion against Karki accusing her of interfering in the work of the executive.

A bench of justice Cholendra Sumsher JBR had stayed the government move and ordered Karki to return to work.

Karki has already retired from her job. But a verdict on the petition has not been passed.
