Birgunj hospital allowing Covid-19 victim’s cremation without following protocol likely to face action

The Birgunj-based National Medical College Teaching Hospital is likely to face action after it has been revealed that it handed over the body of a man who died at the hospital to the family for the last rites despite that he was suspected of Covid-19.

The man who died on May 17 was confirmed of the infection today, which the Ministry of Health and Population declared as the fourth Covid-19 death of the country.

Following the confirmation, officials of the Parsa district held a meeting of the District Crisis Management Centre and recommended the government to probe the case and take action against the hospital.

The meeting headed by Chief District Officer Bishnu Kumar Karki also decided to test the health workers involved in his treatment for the coronavirus.
