Over 50 had attended the funeral of Bara man who tested positive for coronavirus

Kathmandu, May 25

Over 50 locals of Karaiyamai rural municipality-7 of Bara had attended the funeral of a 70-year-old man who died last week but tested positive for the novel coronavirus on Monday, the family says.

It has been found that the National Medical College Teaching Hospital, where the patient was admitted to, did not inform the family anything about a suspicious report of coronavirus infection in the man when he breathed his last on May 17. After suspecting the first report, his swab samples were sent to Kathmandu-based National Public Health Laboratory, testing which the lab said he tested positive today.

The government has issued protocol specifying safety measures to be followed while cremating or burying the bodies of people who die of Covid-19. However, no such rules were followed in his funeral as he was not diagnosed with the disease then, according to ward chair Brij Chaudhary.

The locals, however, have said they had maintained social distancing during the process.
