Eleven names recommended for Supreme Court justice positions

 

Kathmandu, March 2

The Judicial Council has recommended 11 names for the posts of justices, lying vacant at the Supreme Court. On Tuesday night, the JC forwarded the names of four legal professionals and seven appellate courts’ chief judges for the positions.

Anand Mohan Bhattarai, Ishwor Khatiwada, Dipak Karki, Mira Khadka, Sharada Ghimire, Kedar Chalise and Bishwomvar Shrestha are among the nominees. Advocates Hari Krishna Karki, Prakash Raut, Sapana Malla and Anil Kumar Sinha are other nominees.

 

Sarboccha-AdalatAmong the nominees, Karki, chief judge of the Baglung Appellate Court, is on top of the seniority list followed by Kedar Chalise, Sharada Ghimire and Mira Ghimire. Chalise is chief judge at the Biratnagar appellate court, whereas Ghimire and Khadka are chief judges at the Butwal appellate court and Ilam appellate court, respectively.

The JC has forwarded the names to the Parliamentary Hearing Special Committee. The President will appoint the justices after the committee gives its all-clear to the JC picks.
