Kathmandu, May 24

The Supreme Court has ordered Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, president of the CPN-Maoist Centre, to appear before it within three days in response to a writ petition.

The petitioner, Dinesh Tripathi, had moved the court accusing Prachanda of resorting to contempt of court. Tripathi pointed in his petition that Prachanda had accused the court of trying to frame Maoist leaders through insurgency-era cases.

A bench of Acting Chief Justice Sushila Karki issued the order on Tuesday.

Insurgency-era cases have long been a hot-button issue for the Maoists. They have been demanding settlement of such cases through transitional justice mechanisms.
