Nepal reports third Covid-19 death

Kathmandu, May 21

The Ministry of Health and Population has confirmed the third death incident related to the Covid-19 outbreak in the country.

A 41-year-old man from Madane of Gulmi in Province 5 died in the course of treatment at Crimson Hospital in Rupandehi, the ministry’s spokesperson Bikas Devkota said in his daily press briefing in Kathmandu on Thursday afternoon.

Earlier on Wednesday, there were reports that the patient had died, but later, the hospital had dismissed the reports.

His infection was confirmed on Monday.

He was admitted to the intensive care unit of the hospital last Thursday (May 14). He was put on a ventilator when the health officials confirmed coronavirus infection in him.

The principal of a local school, the man had gone to the hospital after experiencing fever for around one week. Local health workers had prescribed some medicines against typhoid for him, and that had worked for a few days. He, however, began vomiting later, and locals rushed him to different health facilities, finally to the Manigram-based hospital.

The country had reported the first Covid-19 death on Saturday, and the second on Sunday.

Covid-19 tally hits 253

Meanwhile, the country’s Covid-19 tally has hit 253 as of 4:15 pm on Thursday. In addition to the tally updated this morning, eight persons in Jhapa and one in Rupandehi tested positive for the virus, according to Devkota.

Meanwhile, four more patients achieved recovery. It means the number of recovered cases has reached 49 in the country.
