Woman, her two-month-old infant found dead in Kathmandu; asphyxiation suspected

Kathmandu, December 16

A 38-year-old woman and her two-month-old son were found dead in their residence in Kirtipur of Kathmandu on Monday morning. Police have suspected that they were died due to suffocation in a narrow room without ventilation.

DSP Chhedilal Kamati of the Kirtipur-based Metropolitan Police Circle says Sharmila Ranjitkar and her were found dead in their rented room in Sundarbasti, Kirtipur-8 this morning.

“Preliminary, we found that they went to bed last night after making a fire in an earthen pot to heat up the room. Sharmila’s husband woke up early in the morning to find his wife and newborn son dead,” he said.

As usual, the man, Nawa Raj, had woken up at around 3 am today to give the baby an oil massage. After both of his family members did not respond to his call, he had informed the police.
