4 die of asphyxiation at Nepalgunj hospital

Four persons of one family died of asphyxiation in the residential quarters of the Bheri Hospital in Nepalgunj, Banke of western Nepal.

Banke Chief District Officer Surya Bahadur Khatri says the hospital’s office assistant Dhan Prasad Bhattarai, his mother Kokila, sister Nandakali and daughter Ipsan died. They were permanent residents of the Khadachakya municipality in the Kalikot district of Karnali.

Dhan Prasad’s wife Sushila, three-year-old Bibash and brother Narendra are undergoing treatment at the same hospital. Two of them are still unconscious.

All seven people were asleep in one room in the quarters last night. After the door did not open until late morning today, the police accompanied by the hospital staff had broken the door to find everyone unconscious.

Then, all of them were taken to the hospital for treatment, during which four persons died.

To keep themselves warm inside the closed room, the family had made a fire, which caused asphyxiation, according to police.
