Kathmandu, January 27

A couple have been found dead at Bojeni, Shankarapur municipality-3 on the eastern outskirts of Kathmandu on Thursday morning.

The deceased have been identified as Padam Bahadur Thing (52) and his wife Phul Kumari Thing (45), who had gone to bed in sound health on Wednesday night, informs SP Dinesh Raj Mainali of the Metropolitan Police Range in Kathmandu. But, after the couple did not open their door until late morning today, their son, Surya Bahadur (26), had broken the door to find the couple dead in the bed.

Following that, he had called the police and locals.

In their preliminary investigation, police have suspected it was a case of asphyxiation as they found a container with ash in it. As they burned the fire to warm themselves in the closed room, the smoke later caused them unable to breathe, according to police.

Forensic experts from the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital also support the police about the cause of the deaths. However, the postmortem is yet to be done and further investigation is underway.
