US Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defence in Nepal

Joseph H Felter, United States Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defence for South and Southeast Asia, is in Nepal on a formal visit.

Felter called on Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defence Ishwar Pokharel in Kathmandu on Monday morning. During the meeting, the US official assured that the American government would continue supporting Nepal in areas of defence also.

He said the US want to a contributor to Nepal’s improved security status, according to Pokharel.

Appreciating the US support for the government of Nepal, Pokharel also maintained that Nepal would not be a part of any international military mechanism.

The official is also scheduled to hold talks with Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.

Felter’s visit happens at a time when it has been said that the US government is not happy with Nepal over its position on recent political crisis in Venezuela.
