Road reopens in both directions after landslide cleared at Ghoptebhir

Chitwan, November 8

Traffic along the Prithvi Highway has resumed in both directions after a dry landslide at Ghoptebhir in Ichchhakamana Rural Municipality-4 was cleared.

The landslide, which occurred on Sunday morning, had blocked the highway. Two-way traffic resumed at 2:15 pm. Earlier, the road had partially reopened to one-way traffic from noon.

According to SP Rameshwar Poudel, chief of the District Police Office, vehicles stranded along the highway were able to proceed towards their destinations after two-way traffic resumed. While the road was open to one-way traffic, vehicles had been allowed to pass alternately in queues.

Sachindra Mishra, information officer for the western section of the Naubise-Mugling Road Project, said clearing the debris had been difficult because the dry landslide had fallen from a height of around 35 metres above the road.

He said the slope had not been cut, but the landslide had occurred naturally from above. As the area remains geologically weak, the risk of further landslides persists at any time.
