The UN Security Council on Tuesday condemned terrorist attacks in Kabul and Badakhshan and called for bringing the perpetrators, organisers, financiers and sponsors to justice.
In a statement, the Security Council underlined the need to bring perpetrators, organisers, financiers and sponsors of the reprehensible acts of terrorism to justice. It urged all countries to cooperate actively with the Afghan authorities in this regard.
The 15-membered body expressed its deep sympathy and condolences to the families of the victims and to the people and Government of Afghanistan, as well as to the people and Governments of Nepal and India. “They wished the injured a speedy recovery,” the statement said.
The UNSC reiterated serious concern at the threats posed by the Taliban, Al-Qaeda, ISIL (Daesh) affiliates, illegal and armed groups to the local population. It said no violent or terrorist acts can reverse the Afghan-led process along the path towards peace, democracy and stability in Afghanistan.
“The members of the Security Council condemned in the strongest terms the terrorist attacks occurred on June 20, in Kabul and Badakhshan province against civilian population,” the council said in a statement.
The detonation of an improvised explosive device (IED) in a bazaar in the Kisham district of Badakhshan killed 10 civilians, including five children, and injured 36 others — mostly children.
In Kabul, ahead of a suicide attack on Nepali and Indian contractors, an IED detonated targeting a provincial council member. The attacks resulted in at least 27 deaths, including 12 Nepali citizens, as well as in more than 48 wounded persons.
