Black marketing: Supplies Minister warns of action against ‘big fish’

Matrika Yadav

Kathmandu, April 1

New Industry, Commerce and Supplies Minister Matrika Yadav warns that he will expedite market monitoring and take action against all found involved in black marketing.

Whereas the government in general faces accusations that it takes action against small-scale traders only whenever it launches monitoring and crackdown campaigns, the Maoist leader, known for his rough action against officials during his previous term as a minister, says he wants to begin them with ‘big fish’ now.

“Beware wrongdoers,” he tells Onlinekhabar in an interview, “If we can nab and jail big criminals, those below them will get to the right track on their own.”

“Therefore, I will begin with big traders. I will make monitoring system well-managed,” the determined Minister says, “We should have a good intention in monitoring, to serve interests of the country and people.”

In another context, the Minister says he is against the Nepali Congress’ policy of privatisation and claims he is planning to revive many government-run industries which have now turned non-functional.

Another option can be public-private partnership, he suggests.

Yadav also says he wants all stakeholders of trade and commerce sector to be friendly with each other. “I request everyone: let us be friends to each other. The government, people, industrialists, traders and workers should be each other’s friends.”

“We are here to serve, not to rule.”
