Bhatbhateni and Big Mart face fines for violating retail regulations

A joint market monitoring team in Lalitpur has fined Bhatbhateni store at Pulchowk for selling out-of-date food.

A team comprising Assistant Chief District Officer Amar Dip Sunuwar conducted the monitoring of several stores including Bhatbhateni, Big Mart and Saleways.

Assistant CDO Sunuwar informed that the Bhatbhateni store was discovered selling food items such as ghee and eggs past their expiry dates. As a result, they were fined a minimum of Rs 100,000. Likewise, Big Mart was found to be selling green vegetables using a manipulated weighing tool, leading to a fine of Rs 10,000.

Sunuwar further said that market monitoring was initiated in anticipation of the upcoming festivals, with the aim of raising public awareness. Sunuwar also issued a warning that anyone jeopardising public health would face appropriate action.

The sub-standard food items were disposed of by the monitoring team, according to Sanjay Thapa, inspector at Small and Cottage Office, Lalitpur.
