Student wings of UML, Maoist Centre form 11,111-member election prep panel

Student wings of CPN-UML and CPN-Maoist Centre, which have agreed to jointly contest upcoming provincial and federal parliamentary elections and merge after the polls, have formed a joint committee to carry out pre-election campaigns for the alliance.

A meeting of two student organisations held in Kathmandu today formed the 11,111-member committee incorporating leaders from both the sides.

“Now, our assemblies, training programmes and other electioneering activities will be held together. We have been mobilised from today for the victory of leftist alliance in upcoming polls,” says Maoist student union’s Vice-Chairman Surendra Basnet.

According to him, the two organisations are hosting a gathering of its leaders and cadres in Kathmandu today. UML leader Shankar Pokhrel and Maoist leader Barshaman Pun will address the event.

The leaders will direct the student leaders to expedite campaigning.

Earlier, youth wings of two parties had also formed a similar committee for the electioneering.
