Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) lawmaker Bodhanarayan Shrestha has called for a comprehensive plan to excavate structures buried by the floods in Rasuwa.
Speaking at a meeting of the House of Representatives on Thursday, Shrestha said he had received numerous calls from relatives in Trishuli seeking the excavation of houses where they believed their family members’ bodies were buried.
He said search and rescue operations were currently underway but had slowed, suggesting that the government should now revise its approach.
According to Shrestha, excavation should be carried out at private houses as well as public buildings, including schools, health facilities and local government offices. He also called for the excavation of archaeological structures, monasteries, temples, religious sites and buildings belonging to financial institutions.
“I urge the Ministry of Home Affairs and the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority to prepare a separate comprehensive plan and launch excavation operations simultaneously across all these areas and all affected districts,” he said.
Shrestha also said cooperation between the government and the private sector would be necessary to carry out the excavation work.
