RJPN will contest polls even if House rejects constitution amendment: Yadav

RJPN leader Mahendra Raya Yadav

Kathmandu, July 30

A member of the Rastriya Janata Party Nepal presidium says the agitating Madhesh-centric parties will contest upcoming local level elections in Province 2 as well as provincial and federal polls even if the constitution amendment bill is rejected by Parliament when it is put to vote.

Mahendra Raya Yadav says the party, however, will not accept the polls to be held before putting the bill to vote.

The government should take serious initiatives to garner support of maximum lawmakers to endorse the amendment, Yadav suggests, saying, “If you can find 388 lawmakers to form government, why don’t you take initiatives to reach the two-third mark for amendment?”

“The government should fulfill its responsibility seriously.”

Meanwhile, Yadav demands that the government withdraw cases charged against its leaders and cadres, declare those killed in various Terai agitations martyrs and add more local units in Terai on the basis of population.

Claiming that conspiracies are being hatched to exclude the RJPN from elections, Yadav warns it may lead the country to a new conflict.
