The agitating Rastriya Janata Party Nepal has said it will contest the third phase of local level elections in Province 2 scheduled for September 18 after ruling parties said they would put the constitution amendment bill to vote as soon as possible.
The Madhesh-centric party has said it will accept results of the voting.
During a meeting between the two sides at the Prime Minister’s residence in Baluwatar this morning, the agreement was made, says RJPN presidium member Sharad Singh Bhandari says.
It is very likely that Speaker Onsari Gharti Magar will put the amendment bill to vote on coming Tuesday.
Despite t he agreement, the ruling parties do not have the support of two-third lawmakers required to endorse the amendment. But, the RJPN has said it will accept results of the voting.
“When we enter a process, we will not run away from the rules,” Bhandari says, “If anyone blocks the amendment, we will go to people to punish them.”
“We will go to the polls with our agenda then.”
Earlier, Prime Minister and Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba had said he would move ahead the amendment process after his India visit scheduled for August 23-27.
