Janakpurdham, August 22

Parties represented in the Provincial Assembly of Province 2 are busy in internal meetings in their bid to recommend a new name for the province.

The Assembly has given them a deadline of Thursday to register their proposals about the name and the permanent capital.

There are four parties in the provincial parliament and each of them is busy in internal meetings since Tuesday. All the parties have claimed that they will conclude their respective meetings on Thursday and registered the proposals.

Ruling Rastriya Janata Party Nepal and Samajwadi Party want the province to be named Madhes whereas opposition forces, Nepal Communist Party and Nepali Congress, have informally suggested Mithila or Mithila-Bhojpura. The ruling side does not have two thirds’ majority required to endorse their proposal.

All the parties seem united that the permanent capital should be established in Janakpur.
