Parsa police authorised to shoot at Covid-19 patients if they run away

Kathmandu, May 15

The police personnel in Parsa, the district with the highest number of coronavirus cases in the country, have been authorised to shoot at Covid-19 patients if they try to run away from isolation wards where they are kept for treatment.

The decision comes two days after two patients ran away from the isolation ward of Narayani Hospital. The police had detained them after a few hours.

A meeting of the District Emergency Management Committee led by Chief District Officer Bishnu Kumar Karki made the decision on Friday.

Meanwhile, the meeting also decided to implement the restrictive orders imposed to control the further spread of the disease more effectively.

The officials have said that if any infected person/s want to stay in isolation in some private properties adhering to the standards set for the purpose, they can do so under the supervision of security personnel now onwards.
