Parliament forms subcommittee to probe wide body irregularities

Kathmandu, December 12

The Public Accounts Committee of Parliament on Wednesday formed a subcommittee to investigate into suspected irregularities in the purchase of two wide body aircraft for the national flag carrier, Nepal Airlines Corporation.

Lawmaker of the ruling Nepal Communist Party, Krishna Lal Maharjan, leads the seven member team.

Other members include Rajan KC, Chanda Adhikari, Pradeep Yadav, Prem Aale, Dharma Shila Chapagain and Mina Subba.

The panel has been told to submit its report to the Committee within next 15 days.

Few days ago, PAC Chairman Bharat Kumar Shah had claimed that Rs 6.59 billion had been embezzled in the deal. The Committee had also consulted Public Procurement Monitoring Committee about the issue.

Earlier, the International Relations and Labour Committee of the House had formed another subcommittee under the leadership of Nepali Congress lawmaker Prakash Man Singh.

Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Rabindra Adhikari has expressed his commitment to extending needful support to the probe conducted by the panels.
