Kathmandu, December 17

Chief district officers of Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Lalitpur have decided to officially remove the odd-even rationing imposed on private and public vehicles playing roads in the valley from Friday onwards.

While relaxing restrictive measures imposed to control the spread of coronavirus in the Kathmandu valley, district administrative offices had introduced the restriction from September 10. However, it had already turned defunct after around one month.

For the want of a decision, traffic police were booking some motorcyclists on the charge of flouting the rule even though most of the vehicles were freely plying in most places of the valley. Of late, public transport entrepreneurs had been demanding the system’s end as it further promoted crowding in operating vehicles thereby increasing the risk of the infection.

In response to their call, the concerned officials and stakeholders held a meeting at Kathmandu District Administration Office today and officially removed the rationing.

Kathmandu CDO Kali Prasad Parajuli maintains the vehicle operators, motorists, and passengers still need to maintain safety measures as specified by the government.
