Absurd? Vehicles barred from operation after 8 pm in Kathmandu, citing Covid-19

Chief district officers in the Kathmandu valley say they have decided to bar all public and private vehicles from operation in Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, and Lalitpur districts, after 8 pm every day.

They have cited the risk of Covid-19 spread to impose the bar, however, social media users have reacted that the rule is absurd as exposure to crowds is already less likely in the given hours.

A meeting of the three CDOs made the decision to impose the rule from Thursday, August 12, till 24.

Kathmandu CDO Kali Prasad Parajuli says the emergency service vehicles need not follow the rule.

Although life in the city already looks normal, the CDOs say they have continued the prohibitory order since the last week of April when Kathmandu reentered lockdown.
