Nepal leader hopes to make world record as first sitting minister to sing on stage

The dissolution of the House of Representatives has recently split Nepal’s ruling party. Consequently, the political scenario in Nepal has heated up. However, Urban Development State Minister Ram Bir Manandhar, a member of the party and the House, is not concerned about that these days.

He says he has a greater task at hand. Manandhar, also the owner of a cinema hall in Kathmandu, is singing on stage on Friday in a bid to register his name as the world’s first sitting minister to give a singing performance on stage.

Nevertheless, he does not have any singing background. Neither has he sung anything on stage until today. “I am organising this function to make a record in the World Book of Records on behalf of Nepal,” the confident minister says, “My name will be kept there as the first sitting minister to give a musical performance.”

Manandhar says he has prepared around 60 songs for the four-hour show. He claims he had been preparing for the event for the past five years.

His show is being organised at his own Ashta Narayan cinema hall in Kathmandu today. The government-run Nepal Television will telecast the event live.
