NCP to pick district leaders only after Oli’s Europe trip

Kathmandu, June 6

The ruling Nepal Communist Party has put on hold the formation of its politburo and selection of district in-charges and their deputies till its chairman and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli will be back from his scheduled Europe trip.

Oli is scheduled to leave for Europe this Saturday. He will return home on Wednesday next week.

The party’s secretariat had discussed the issue for consecutive three weeks. However, it could not reach conclusion owing to disputes between the leaders.

In particular, the secretariat was divided over whether the leaders holding positions of ministers and lawmakers at provincial and federal levels could become district in-charges and deputies.

Prime Minister and party chairman KP Sharma Oli wanted to allow the lawmakers and ministers to lead the party in the districts whereas some influential leaders including former prime minister Madhav Kumar Nepal opposed him.

Meanwhile, another chairman of the party, Pushpa Kamal Dahal, proposed a middle math solution, to bridge the differences. According to him, the ministers and lawmakers should be put on the secondary priority list.
