The standing committee meeting of the ruling Nepal Communist Party in Kathmandu, on Tuesday, June 30, 2020.

Kathmandu, July 1

The ongoing standing committee meeting of the ruling Nepal Communist Party has been halted after briefly taking place on Wednesday.

Earlier on Tuesday, the meeting had taken place for hours, during which key leaders of the party including chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, and senior leaders Jhala Nath Khanal and Madhav Kumar Nepal had demanded that Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli resign from his positions as the party chair and the PM.

Following that, Oli consulted some standing committee members separately this morning. Then, the standing committee meeting was convened at the prime minister’s official residence in Baluwatar.

The party spokesperson Narayan Kaji Shrestha says Lilamani Pokharel, Yogesh Bhattarai, Matrika Yadav, NK Prasain and Peshal Khatiwada spoke about the agenda of the meeting today. The meeting was halted as the leaders were required to attend the House of Representatives meeting at 1, according to him.
