NCP standing committee meeting deferred again until Tuesday

The standing committee meeting of the ruling Nepal Communist Party in Kathmandu, on Tuesday, June 30, 2020.

Kathmandu, July 19

Still unable to find a concrete solution to the dispute regarding the party leadership, the ruling Nepal Communist Party has deferred its standing committee meeting again, until Tuesday.

The meeting was scheduled to be held at 3 pm today. But, the party’s central office issued a statement two hours before the scheduled meeting to inform the next meeting would take place at 11 am on Tuesday at the prime minister’s official residence in Baluwatar.

The meeting that began on June 24 has been halted time and again citing differences between two chairmen of the party, KP Sharma Oli and Pushpa Kamal Dahal. On the first day of the meeting, Dahal had demanded that Oli resign as the PM and the party chair, which Oli refused. Of late, reportedly, Oli has convinced Dahal that he would retain both the positions until the party would held its next convention in December, but a faction led by Madhav Kumar Nepal has not accepted the proposal.
