NCP secretariat meeting on Saturday, standing committee on Sunday

The standing committee meeting of the ruling Nepal Communist Party in Kathmandu, on Tuesday, June 30, 2020.

Kathmandu, July 17

The standing committee meeting of the ruling Nepal Communist Party has been postponed once again, for Sunday, apparently after the two factions of the party could not make any consensus about the leadership of the party and the government.

The meeting scheduled for 11 am today was deferred until 3 pm as two chairpersons of the party, KP Sharma Oli and Pushpa Kamal Dahal, continued their last-minute efforts to find a meeting point. But, the meeting would take place at 3 pm on Sunday only, according to a leader.

The standing committee meeting had begun last month but was halted after a majority of the members demanded that Oli resign as both the party chair and the PM, which he refused to consider.

Secretariat meeting on Saturday

Meanwhile, the party has called a meeting of the party’s nine-member secretariat for this Saturday to discuss the dispute.
