Kathmandu, August 18
In a major blow to the Ram Chandra Poudel camp in the Nepali Congress, Nain Singh Mahar from the establishment faction won the race for leadership of the party-aligned Nepal Student Union.
Mahar not only defeated Manoj Mani Acharya from the rival Ram Chandra Poudel camp, his panel clinched most of the NSU leadership positions.
Kundan Kafle and Saroj Thapa from the Mahal panel became NSU general secretaries.
The NSU managed to hold its general convention after a hiatus of nine years.
It should be noted that the establishment campaign had come under fire from the rival camp during the NSU election process for including fake GC representatives in the process.
Most NSU poll candidates also came under fire for contesting student elections even when they were already in their 40’s.
