Kathmandu, August 11

A group of students affiliated to the main opposition Nepali Congress’ student wing, Nepal Student Union, has vandalised the offices of the vice-chancellor and the registrar of Tribhuvan University, the biggest academic institution of the country, on Tuesday.

NSU’s TU Central Campus Committee chief Hari Acharya says the students in the science faculty were involved in vandalism. “Seeking an alternative to exams, they had met the registrar yesterday. The registrar said he did not have any alternative,” the leader informs, “Consequently, they vandalised the offices today.”

Owing to the Covid-19 crisis, the university has not been able to conduct examinations of various programmes for the past five months. Neither has it been able to make a decision about alternatives.

Meanwhile, police arrested seven for their alleged involvement in vandalism.
