Most UDMF issues addressed save boundary dispute, says DPM Bhim Rawal

Kathmandu, January 24

Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Bhim Rawal said on Sunday that the government has addressed major demands of the United Democratic Madheshi Front, which has been staging a movement in the Madhesh, mainly to press for redrawing of provincial boundaries. He said the government will soon call the UDMF for talks for addressing other demands of the front.

Rawal was speaking at a face-to-face that Reporters’ Club Nepal had organised on Sunday.  Constitution amendmends have addressed most of the UDMF demands. Through this, the government has conveyed that it is ready to address more of the front’s demands.

He appealed the UDMF to come for fruitful talks with the government instead of resorting to strikes, riots and other prohibitive activities. We are close to an understanding on most of the UDMF’s issues,  Rawal said, adding that the understanding has not been possible due to UDMF’s stance on redrawing of provincial boundaries.
