Landslides and floods obstruct several highways in Nepal

Vehicular movement has partially resumed on BP Highway in Kavre after landslide debris has been cleared, on Thursday, July 12, 2018.

Kathmandu, July 12

Landslides and floods triggered by incessant rainfall since Wednesday night have obstructed several highways and roads across the country.

In Kathmandu, Bhaktapur city has been the worst hit and the Araniko Highway has been affected. Vehicles plying the road have been diverted towards Purano Bato (Pepsicola-Sano Thimi-Sallaghari-Bhaktapur road).

The Highway has been obstructed due to a flood in Banepa and a landslide in Zero Kilo of Kavre. Vehicles coming to Kathmandu from Sindhupalchok and Dolakha districts have been stuck halfway.

Meanwhile, the BP Highway has been obstructed at multiple points of Kavre district including Kavre Bhanjyang, Kaldhunga, Mamti and Mangaltar.

Several landslides along Phakhel-Kulekhani-Hetaunda road in Makawanpur distruct obstructed the vehicular movement there. Likewise, a landslip in Sunambesi, Phikkal-2 of Sindhuli blocked the Madhya Pahadi (Mid-Hill) Highway.

The Bhupi Sherchan Highway (Pokhara-Baglung road) has been obstructed at Annapurna Rural Municipality-5 of Kaski district.

Meanwhile, one-way traffic movement has resumed along some roads as security personnel and locals cleared the landslide debris.

Efforts are underway to resume the full-fledged movement.
