Japan interested to invest in Nepal agriculture

The president of Japan International Research Centre for Agricultural Sciences, Masa Iwanaga, calls on Minister for Industry and Commerce, Matrika Yadav, on Tuesday, November 12, 2019.

Japan has expressed its interest in the development of agriculture in Nepal. During a meeting held with Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies, Matrika Yadav, Japanese officials also hinted that they were willing to invest in the sector.

On the occasion, the president of Japan International Research Centre for Agricultural Sciences, Masa Iwanaga, said Japanese investors were willing to invest in Nepal. He also commented that Nepal’s progress in legal reform and infrastructure construction was commendable after attaining political stability.

He also said efforts were underway to partner with Nepal Agricultural Research Council to work together for the development of agriculture in Nepal. The official was of the view that Nepal’s geographic diversity would be important in the sector.

In response, Yadav said foreign investors should invest in Nepal so as to increase the value of agriculture business in Nepal. He said the funds could be generated from both government and private sides of Japan for investment in Nepal.
