Japan extends support to Nepal’s Economic Census

Kathmandu, April 2

The Japan International Cooperation Agency in Nepal says it is assisting the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) for the National Economic Census 2018 of Nepal (NEC 2018).

The NEC 2018 is the first-ever economic census in Nepal’s history, and covers all the establishments in the territory of Nepal except some minor industrial sectors. It will begin on April 14 ad lasts till June 14.

The support will be provided through a technical cooperation project named ‘Project on Capacity Development for the implementation of Economic Census 2018 in Nepal’. The project was launched last year,
JICA says it has provided necessary goods and equipment worth of Rs 95.1 million to the CBS in a span of two years.

Likewise, tablets, laptops and desktop computers, computer software, satellite imagery, GIS software, UPS, external hard disks, projectors, printers, plotters, monitors, air conditioners, smart phones, servers, screens, and solar power generation systems to back up the operation have been provided.

Enumerators hired by CBS will be equipped by JICA with logistics including bags, caps, ball pens, stickers, writing pens, note diaries, pencils and erasers, plastic bags and t-shirts.
