The government has begun constructing a new canteen for members of the Federal Parliament on the Parliament building premises in Naya Baneshwor.

The Ministry of Urban Development has planned to complete the construction within next six months. Rs 27.8 million has been allocated for the project.

The new facility will boast a dining hall with a capacity of 186 people. It will have halal meals for Muslim lawmakers.

Minister for Urban Development Mohammad Istiyak Rai laid foundation stone for the project on Tuesday. On the occasion, he directed the contractor to complete the construction works on time.

He warned that action would be taken against concerned officials and the contractor if the project deadline was not met.

Secretary Ramesh Prasad Singh was of the opinion that the canteen should be disabled friendly.
