Kathmandu, September 24
A question has been raised in parliament regarding a Kanchanpur customs officer who allegedly threatened an Armed Police Force (APF) Superintendent of Police (SP) from Kailali over the impounding of a vehicle.
Rastriya Swatantra Party lawmaker Tika Sangroula raised the issue in the House of Representatives.
She raised the matter in parliament after it emerged that the officer had used extremely low-level, threatening language while reprimanding the SP over the vehicle’s impoundment at customs.
“That employee has openly disregarded the law, discipline, and chain of command, saying he would ‘smack’ his own departmental director-general, the Inspector General of the Armed Police Force, and even the Home Minister himself,” Sangroula said. “What does this ‘smack’ mean? Does it mean calling to threaten, meeting in person to hit, or taking away your position?”
She also asked, “If a customs officer has the capacity to threaten the Home Minister, then what exactly are we doing here in parliament?”
Saying the incident has tarnished the image of the entire state apparatus, she demanded an investigation into the audio clip in question.
