Kathmandu, November 9

The government has sacked governors (province chiefs) in Province 1, Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces. New people have been appointed immediately to fill in the vacancies.

A minister tells Onlinekhabar that the cabinet meeting held on Monday removed Somnath Adhikari ‘Pyasi’ of Province 1, Govinda Prasad Kalauni of Karnali and Ganga Prasad Yadav of Sudurpaschim.

Parashu Ram Khapung, Tilak Pariyar and Devraj Joshi will replace them respectively.

Whereas the Sher Bahadur Deuba-led government had already removed governors in Province 2, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini to appoint the new ones, the remaining three officials have also been removed.

Meanwhile, experts have expressed concerns over such frequent changes in key republican institutions, warning this would threaten the nascent republicanism in Nepal.
