Kathmandu, December 22
The Nepal Oil Corporation under the government says it will establish its own liquefied petroleum gas bottling plant in the wake of a recent fire incident at a similar facility in Birgunj of Parsa.
The Corporation says it wants to end the monopoly of private sector in the trade of cooking gas. The government-run Salt Trading Corporation is also operating a bottling plant for last few years.
With the establishment of bottling plant, the Corporation hopes that problems arising from frequent strikes likely to be imposed by private dealers can be solved and the cooking gas can be supplied smoothly at any circumstance.
Sources say the Corporation has expedited internal discussions and homework to establish the bottling plant. The Corporation plans to sell gas cylinders in its own brand name, informs its Executive Director Sushil Bhattarai.
The Corporation has concluded that places at the centre of the country like Chitwan can be appropriate to establish the plant.
“If all stakeholders cooperate with out plan,” Bhattarai claims, “Consumers will get benefits.”
Likewise, the Corporation also wants to establish a storage facility so that the cooking gas in its store can be sufficient for as long as 90 days in case the supply is obstructed.
Nepali consumers currently need 30,000 metric ton cooking gas in one month.
