Mahatab Alam, a brother of former minister and Nepali Congress leader Mohammad Aftab Alam, has been arrested in connection with the 2008 explosion in Rautahat district of southern Nepal.

A source in Nepal Police says he was arrested in coordination with Indian Police in Motihari of Bihar. By now, he has already been taken to Rautahat.

One of the suspects of the notorious incident was on the run for the past many months.

The Alam brothers are also accused of burning some people alive to kill them at a brick kiln in April 2008 in the run-up to the parliamentary elections.

Alam, a member of the House of Representatives, was arrested on the charge in October last year. The suspended lawmaker is currently facing three criminal charges at Rautahat District Court.

The court has sent him to judicial custody until the final verdict.
