Court to continue recording Alam’s statement today

The recording of suspended lawmaker Mohammad Aftab Alam’s statements over the criminal charges labelled against him continued at Rautahat District Court on Wednesday also. A single bench of Rautahat District Court’s Judge Deepak Dhakal is conducting the recording of Alam’s statements. Alam, on Wednesday, declined that the incident ever happened. He told the court that the allegations made against him were false.

District Attorney’s Office, Rautahat on Monday had filed a case against 10 individuals including Alam on murder and explosion charges demanding their life in prison. The Nepali Congress lawmaker was arrested last month in connection with an explosion and the subsequent murder of at least 23 persons in Rautahat 12 years ago.

His statement will continue to be recorded on Thursday.

Govt says it doesn’t accept new India map

The government has said that it is not going to accept the new map made public by India which puts Nepali territory in India. Releasing a statement on Wednesday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has said that it will approach the Indian government for clarification. The release stated that as the map was one-sided, it would not accept it.

Mahara made a mistake by lying to NCP leadership: Dahal

Chairperson of Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Pushpa Kamal Dahal has said that former speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara who is accused of an attempt to rape, if found guilty, should face action in accordance with the prevailing laws.

According to Dahal, Mahara lied to him when he asked if the allegations made against him were true. Dahal said that Mahara also lied to party spokesperson Narayan Kaji Shrestha, which he feels was a wrong thing to do. He said, if found guilty, Mahara should be punished for committing such a heinous crime.

July 2020 is new Melamchi deadline

Chinese company Sinu Hydro has been given a deadline of July 2020 to complete the Melamchi Drinking Water Supply Project. A team of government officials visited the project site this week and gave the Chinese company eight months to complete the project.

NAC to buy ground tugs to move aeroplanes

Nepal Airline Corporation has said that it is purchasing a ground tug to move aeroplanes. The NAC says that the ground tug will arrive in Nepal by February 2020. The national flag carrier is purchasing the ground tug to tow aircraft which are stranded at the airport. In the past year, three aeroplanes have been stranded at the TIA due to technical issues. The use of the ground tug will also save aviation fuel, according to officials.

By-election preparation completed, says EC

The Election Commission (EC) has said it has completed all necessary preparations for the upcoming November 30 by-elections for vacant posts for the House of Representatives, Provincial Assembly and local levels. Chief Election Commissioner, Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya, said that the EC was committed to organising the elections in a fair and peaceful manner.

The voting will be conducted on November 30 from 7 am to 5 pm. According to Thapaliya, the EC has designated 247 polling places and 537 polling stations and voter turnout is expected to be around 400,000.
