Kathmandu, November 24

The Election Commission has sought clarification from Deputy Prime Minister and RPP chief Kamal Thapa for continuing his party’s poll campaign even after the stipulated deadline.

According to Nepal’s prevailing laws, political parties and candidates have to stop campaigning for votes two days ahead of the elections. The Election Comission has ordered Thapa to furnish his clarification within 24 hours.

The commission wrote to Thapa after he tweeted during the ‘silent period’ asking voters to choose his party during the first phase of elections on Sunday.

A copy of the letter has also been sent to the Prime Minster’s Office and the RPP party office.
